Gili Asahan Ecolodge Lombok

If you’ve been craving a quiet little escape where time slows down, Gili Asahan Ecolodge in Lombok might be exactly what you’re looking for.

This isn’t the kind of place you go to “do it all.” It’s where you go to do less, breathe deeper, and remember what it feels like to just exist without constant notifications.

First Impressions: Slow, Quiet, Peaceful

From the moment you arrive, there’s this calm that settles in. The view is beautifully simple turquoise water, soft sand, and that gentle stillness you don’t realise you’ve been missing until you feel it again.

There’s no big resort chaos, no blaring music, no rush. Just the sound of the sea, the occasional boat passing, and life moving at island pace. It feels a bit like stepping out of your own life for a while, in the best way.

The Bungalows: Simple, Clean, Comfortable

The bungalows at Gili Asahan Ecolodge are exactly what they need to be. Clean, cosy, and comfortable. Don’t expect over-the-top luxury; expect thoughtful simplicity.

  • The rooms are well-kept and tidy. There is air-conditioning and a fan.
  • The space feels airy and relaxed. The bathroom was outdoors but private and enclosed in the bungalow place
  • Everything you need is there, without excess.

It’s the kind of place where you wake up, open your door, and the first thing you see is nature. Not a hallway, not a lift lobby, just the outdoors waiting for you.

The Staff: Warm, Attentive, Genuine

One of the things that really makes the stay memorable is the people.

The staff are attentive and friendly in that genuine, unforced way. They check in on you to make sure you feel taken care of, but you also feel like you have your space.

It adds to the overall sense of ease like you’re a guest, not just a room number.

The Horse Experience

One of the unique little highlights here is the horse experience.

There’s something really special about seeing horses in this setting.  On a quiet island, against that peaceful backdrop of mountains and the turquoise water. Whether you’re just watching them or getting to interact more closely, it feels grounding and almost nostalgic, like a scene from a simpler time. It fits perfectly with the whole vibe of the ecolodge: nature, calm, and a slower way of being.

You can book book activities like a beach walk with the horses where you can interact with them or you can also have a guided session where you connect with a horse on a more deeper level communicating and move with nature.

Other Activities

There are other activities around the island like Snorketing, Kayaking, Yoga, Diving and etc. But I cannot comment on them as I solely went for the calm and relaxing experience but rest assured I’d definitely be doing more activities on my next visit.

A Place to Unplug (Literally): No WiFi in the Rooms

This might be a downside for some, but personally, I loved it.

There’s no WiFi in the rooms, and I honestly preferred it that way. It forces you to:

  • Put your phone down, Be present.
  • Read, journal, nap, talk, or just stare at the ocean (highly underrated, by the way)

For me, that was the whole point of coming here. To disconnect from the constant online noise. If you really need to connect, you can always go to the common areas, but it’s nice knowing your room is a no-scroll zone.

Local Spa: Relaxing, But Could Be Cooler

There’s a local spa at the Ecolodge, which is a lovely addition if you’re in the mood for extra relaxation with massages after a long day in the sun are always a yes.

The only thing I personally wished for: fans in the spa area.

After a while, it did feel quite warm, and a bit of airflow would have made the experience even more comfortable. It’s not a dealbreaker, but something to note if you’re sensitive to heat.

Who This Place Is Perfect For

Gili Asahan Ecolodge is ideal if you’re someone who:

  • Wants a peaceful, nature-focused getaway
  • Enjoys simple, clean, comfortable stays over flashy luxury
  • Loves the idea of being offline and present
  • Appreciates friendly, attentive staff and a slower pace
  • Is looking for a reset mentally, emotionally, and digitally

If you’re looking for nightlife, shopping, or constant stimulation, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to relax, read, swim, sleep early, wake up with the sun, and just enjoy the simplicity of life, this little ecolodge is a beautiful choice.

Gili Asahan Ecolodge is a reminder that a simple life, even for a few days, can be incredibly healing.
